Nottingham Forest forward Igor Jesus added a splash of anime flair to the field on Thursday, celebrating his rapid goal in the Europa League like Dragon Ball Z’s Goku.
Coming on as a substitute, Jesus scored just 82 seconds into the game, contributing to Forest’s 2-1 victory against Utrecht, and marking his fourth goal in European tournaments for the club, alongside his seventh this season.
“Scoring so quickly was incredible,” stated the 24-year-old. “While on the bench, I was focused and ready, and once the coach put me in, I gave my all. I want to keep this momentum going.”
Jesus began his career at Coritiba in Brazil, where he netted three goals in 24 matches, helping the club achieve promotion at 18. After a challenging stint at a higher level, he transferred to Shabab Al-Ahli in the UAE, where he tallied 46 goals in 92 games over four years.
His return to Brazil with Botafogo in 2024 saw him play a crucial role in the club's Serie A and Copa Libertadores victories. His impressive displays garnered global attention, leading to his Brazil debut in October 2024, where he scored in a 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over Chile.
Football analyst Tim Vickery referred to him as “the modern-day Drogba,” especially after he clinched a game against European champions PSG during the Club World Cup group stage.
The significance of Jesus’ goal resonated deeply with Nottingham Forest fans, as it marked the club's first European away victory since 1995, a historic achievement that bolsters Forest's chances for a top-eight place in the Europa League group, securing a pathway to the knockout stage.
Manager Sean Dyche expressed his joy, stating: “I’m thrilled for the supporters. The players are blending well, results are positive, and we hope this continues.”
