India and Afghanistan have unveiled a new Air Freight Corridor linking Kabul to Delhi and Amritsar. This crucial initiative seeks to elevate trade and streamline the flow of essential goods between the nations. The launch was announced during Afghan Commerce Minister Nooruddin Azizi's visit to New Delhi, which spanned from November 19 to 25, 2025.
Minister Azizi engaged in discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations, improving connectivity, and fostering people-to-people exchanges. Both parties consented to establish two air freight routes: Kabul–Delhi and Kabul–Amritsar, facilitating quicker and more efficient goods transport.
The nations also resolved to rejuvenate the Joint Working Group on Trade, Commerce, and Investment after a lengthy hiatus. This group will be instrumental in drafting and executing trade agreements and cooperative initiatives. Furthermore, India and Afghanistan will designate Commercial Representatives within each other’s embassies and form a Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry to bolster business coordination.
The trade delegation led by Minister Azizi participated in the India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2025. Afghan traders interacted with Indian trade entities including APEDA, TEXPROCIL, CCI, AEPC, and ASSOCHAM to identify prospects for the sustained import of agricultural products, medicines, textiles, and other critical goods.
Both nations reiterated their commitment to revamping and enhancing their economic partnership. India conveyed its readiness to collaborate closely with Afghanistan to foster sustainable economic growth and mutual advantages for their populations.
This newly established air freight corridor and the renewed collaboration represent a promising advancement toward stronger economic connections and enhanced connectivity between India and Afghanistan, aiding in trade improvement and regional development.
