India’s women cricketers walked off the County Ground on Tuesday night with a slice of history and a 24‑run victory that puts them 2‑0 ahead in the five‑match T20 series— their first back‑to‑back wins over England in the format.
Asked to bat first, India stumbled to 31 for 3 before Amanjot Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues settled the ship. Their 93‑run stand from just 55 balls reset the innings, and a late 32 off 17 from Richa Ghosh lifted the visitors to a formidable 181.
Kaur’s impact stretched beyond the bat. She snared England captain Nat Sciver‑Brunt in the third over, leaving the hosts tottering at 17 for 3. Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones mustered a spirited 70‑run partnership, but debut‑series find Shree Charani—fresh from four wickets in the opener—struck twice more to break England’s resistance. Three costly run‑outs added to England’s woes, and they closed on 157 for 8.
The win snaps England’s flawless T20I record at Bristol, where they had previously won all five matches, and it marks the first time they have lost more than once in any of their eight five‑match T20I series. India head into Friday’s third match with the chance to wrap up the series well ahead of schedule.
