India’s cricket team was supposed to tour Bangladesh in August this year to play three One Day matches and three T20 matches starting from August 17 in Dhaka. But now this tour might be delayed because it needs permission from the Indian government.
A senior official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Iftikhar Rahman, said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed them about this possible delay. However, BCCI has not made any official comment about the tour yet.
Iftikhar Rahman explained that this tour is part of the International Cricket Council’s Future Tours Programme, so it cannot be cancelled completely. If it does not happen in August, it will be rescheduled to a date that suits both countries.
Some officials from BCB said the reason for the delay is that India’s government clearance is still pending. Indian media has also reported on this issue.
This delay comes at a time when Bangladesh and India are having diplomatic tensions. In August last year, there was a mass protest in Bangladesh that removed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power.
Earlier, Bangladesh visited India in September and October 2024 to play two Test matches and two T20 matches. Now cricket fans in both countries will have to wait for the final decision about this upcoming series.
