Indonesia is set to use the upcoming FIFA Series 2026 as a major test of its ability to host international football tournaments, according to officials from the national football body.
The matches, scheduled to take place from March 27 to 30 in Jakarta, will be held at the iconic Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, one of the country’s largest sporting venues.
Chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia, Erick Thohir, said the tournament presents an important opportunity to demonstrate Indonesia’s readiness to organize international-standard events.
He emphasized that hosting the FIFA Series is not only about competition but also about improving infrastructure, event management, and overall professionalism in Indonesian football.
Indonesia is set to face Saint Kitts and Nevis in the opening match, a fixture expected to draw strong fan support and highlight the country’s growing football culture.
Officials have confirmed that preparations for stadium facilities, logistics, and security have been carried out extensively to meet global standards. The event is also seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen the domestic league and develop talent, including players gaining experience abroad.
The FIFA Series is an initiative aimed at providing more international match opportunities for emerging football nations, helping them gain exposure and improve competitiveness.
With increasing attention on Southeast Asia as a potential hub for global sporting events, Indonesia hopes the successful hosting of this tournament will enhance its reputation and open doors for future international competitions.
