During a recent review, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, examined a variety of innovative mobility projects introduced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, highlighting their significance for improving transport efficiency and sustainability.
Sheikh Hamdan received a comprehensive briefing from Mattar Al Tayer regarding three pivotal projects: a rapid intervention vehicle, a smart bus station, and facilities for soft mobility parking.
These innovative initiatives exemplify the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aiming to position Dubai as a leading city in the realm of modern and sustainable transport solutions. Sheikh Hamdan noted that the city is transforming urban mobility through cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly practices to enhance the quality of life for residents.
Rapid Intervention Vehicle
Among the standout developments is a sophisticated rapid intervention vehicle, engineered to swiftly tackle emergencies, particularly during heavy rains and flooding.
Capable of pumping an impressive 60,000 litres of water per minute—equivalent to ten standard pumps—this vehicle operates effectively in water depths of up to 1.8 meters, significantly reducing response times by over 75%.
Equipped with state-of-the-art features, including multiple pumps, a rescue boat, thermal drones, and backup generators, it ensures rapid emergency responses without disrupting traffic flow.
Smart Bus Station
Additionally, Sheikh Hamdan assessed the smart bus station on Sheikh Zayed Road, close to the Mall of the Emirates. Currently 90% finished, it will soon become fully operational.
Offering a fully digital and paperless environment, this station integrates with nol cards and the S’hail app. It also boasts solar panels, AI-driven cameras for crowd management, and air quality monitoring sensors.
Designed to meet LEED Platinum standards, it provides a safe, eco-conscious, and comfortable experience for passengers.
Soft Mobility Parking Facilities
As part of its strategy, the RTA has unveiled contemporary parking solutions for bicycles and electric scooters, incorporating shaded areas, charging points, and smart monitoring technology.
This initiative promotes eco-friendly travel choices and enhances first and last-mile connectivity, following global best practices and being rolled out at key transport hubs and popular venues.
Future Expansion Plan
The introduction of these facilities coincides with a surge in cycling activities in Dubai, with trips projected to increase by 23% to reach 57.6 million by 2025.
A phased implementation will kick off with pilot projects at five locations in July 2026, aiming for complete deployment by 2028.
Leadership Vision
This visit underscores the commitment of Dubai's leadership to oversee project development and ensure timely execution. These initiatives are set to fortify Dubai’s status as a frontrunner in smart mobility, innovation, and sustainable urban development.
