Kate Winslet Makes Directorial Debut with Son Joe’s 'Goodbye June'

Kate Winslet Makes Directorial Debut with Son Joe’s 'Goodbye June'

Post by : Meena Ariff

On December 3, Kate Winslet arrived at the world premiere of her directorial debut, Goodbye June, at the Curzon Mayfair in London, accompanied by her son Joe Anders. This Christmas-themed drama, penned by the 21-year-old Joe, marks Winslet's first venture into directing a feature film.

The Oscar-winning actress dazzled in an Elie Saab gown complemented by a gold belt and stylish jewelry, while Joe opted for a classic black suit paired with a crisp white shirt. Also shining on the red carpet were co-stars Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn, and Timothy Spall.

Goodbye June will hit theaters in select locations in the U.S. and U.K. on December 12, 2025, and will premiere on Netflix on December 24.

Reflecting on her involvement, Winslet expressed that her desire to direct stemmed from a wish to protect her son’s vision. “After he wrote the screenplay, I promised him that I would produce it and play Julia. Yet, when it came to the directing role, I realized I couldn’t simply let it go to someone else. I wanted it to be mine to direct,” she stated.

Winslet remarked that working alongside her son provided a unique and rewarding experience. “He’s incredibly knowledgeable about film, and having him by my side each day was remarkable. We discovered so much about each other during the making of this film,” she shared.

Winslet co-parents Joe with her former husband, director Sam Mendes, from whom she separated in 2010 and officially divorced in 2011.
