Indian opener KL Rahul reached his 11th Test century on Friday, keeping India on course for a commanding first-innings lead against West Indies in the opening Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium. At lunch on day two, India were 218 for 3, with Rahul unbeaten on 100 and Dhruv Jurel on 14, giving the hosts a 56-run advantage over the visitors.
The morning session saw the dismissal of India captain Shubman Gill, who made a solid 50. Rahul, meanwhile, displayed his class with 12 fours, anchoring the innings and ensuring India remained in a strong position after bowling out West Indies for 162 on Thursday.
Rahul’s century came through a series of smart shots. He edged Jaydon Seales, but the ball slipped between the wicketkeeper and first slip for a boundary. Gill, on the other end, played aggressively against Justin Greaves, hitting a wristy flick over mid-wicket and a powerful pull against Johann Layne. Rahul also punished debutant spinner Khary Pierre with two cleanly timed fours in a single over, steadily pushing India into the lead.
The India captain, Gill, unfortunately lost his wicket while attempting an ambitious reverse sweep off Roston Chase, edging the ball to the slip cordon. However, Rahul continued to bat with composure, bringing up his century with a single off Chase, showcasing his experience and technique.
India now hold a crucial first-innings advantage as the match progresses, with Rahul leading from the front. His fluent knock has put India in a strong position to build a significant total and dominate the opening Test against the West Indies.
