Labubu Doll Tantrum Causes ₹48 Lakh Home Damage

Labubu Doll Tantrum Causes ₹48 Lakh Home Damage

Post by : Meena Ariff

In a shocking incident from China, a child’s demand for a popular Labubu doll ended in chaos and left a family with huge repair costs. The young boy, visiting a relative’s home, became upset when his parents refused to buy him the doll. In anger, he damaged a glass ceiling and smashed a crystal chandelier, causing destruction worth more than ₹48.72 lakh (400,000 yuan).

This unusual case has drawn widespread attention online, with many people debating the growing craze for the Labubu doll and the pressure it is putting on families.

What Sparked the Incident

The event was reported by a well-known Chinese influencer, “Little Azheng” or “Tail Brother.” According to him, the trouble began when the child, who was visiting with his parents, saw a Labubu doll decorated with expensive jewellery.

He wanted the doll immediately, but his parents refused. This refusal triggered a strong reaction — the boy began shouting and throwing a tantrum. His frustration escalated until he picked up a remote-control device and hurled it into the air. The device struck the glass ceiling, causing it to shatter and fall. Pieces of the broken glass also hit and destroyed a crystal chandelier hanging below.

The Cost of the Damage

The chandelier alone was worth over ₹4 lakh. But when combined with the destruction to the ceiling, the total damage reached more than ₹48.72 lakh. The influencer shared images showing shards of glass scattered across the floor and the ceiling stripped of its panels.

He also noted that repairing the ceiling will require replacing every single glass panel, making it an expensive and time-consuming process.

Parents Take Responsibility

Despite the embarrassment, the parents admitted that their son’s actions were unacceptable and agreed to cover nearly half of the repair costs — about ₹24.36 lakh (20,000 yuan). The rest of the expense is expected to be borne by the homeowners.

This response from the parents has been praised by some as a responsible action, while others argue that the incident reflects poor discipline and a lack of control over children’s demands.

The Labubu Craze

The Labubu doll has become a global trend in recent years, especially in Asia. Known for its unusual, slightly “creepy” appearance, the doll is a creation of Chinese toy giant Pop Mart. It is sold as part of blind-box collections, meaning buyers don’t know exactly which version they will get until they open the box.

Certain rare editions have become collector’s items, with prices skyrocketing in online resales. The doll at the center of this story was a Labubu adorned with jewellery, making it more desirable for collectors.

Skyrocketing Prices for Rare Editions

Recently, a rare Labubu x Vans plush doll sold for an astonishing $10,585 (about ₹8.84 lakh) on eBay. This particular edition was released in 2023 as part of a collaboration between Pop Mart and the skatewear brand Vans.

The limited-edition doll came dressed in a matching sweatshirt, Sk8-Mid sneakers, and a blue-and-orange cap embroidered with “The Monsters.” Its price has multiplied 125 times in less than two years due to scarcity and collector demand.

Impact of Toy Fads on Families

The incident has sparked discussion about how high-priced toys and social media trends are influencing children’s expectations. Many parents have shared their struggles, saying that constant exposure to online trends makes it harder to manage their children’s demands.

In this case, the refusal to give in led to significant property damage, showing how emotional reactions can escalate. Psychologists suggest that setting boundaries early and teaching children about the value of money can help prevent such incidents.

Repair Work Ahead

According to “Little Azheng,” repairing the damaged home will be a complex task. All the remaining glass panels in the ceiling must be replaced for safety reasons. The chandelier will also need to be custom-made again, which will take time and additional costs.

He said that while the parents were deeply embarrassed, they agreed to cooperate fully and make partial payment for the repairs. The influencer himself said he hoped the incident would serve as a reminder for families to manage children’s behaviour before it leads to bigger problems.

Public Reaction

The story has gone viral in China and other countries, with thousands of comments on social media. Some users expressed shock at the child’s extreme reaction, while others sympathized with the parents, saying peer pressure and online trends can be overwhelming.

Many also joked about how powerful the Labubu craze has become, with one user writing, “The doll is expensive — but not as expensive as the damage it caused here!”

The Labubu doll may be a collector’s dream, but this incident shows the darker side of toy trends and social media hype. For one family, the refusal to buy a doll led to nearly ₹48 lakh in damages, emotional stress, and a viral story.

As the popularity of rare collectibles continues to grow, parents face the challenge of balancing children’s desires with financial reality — and ensuring that a simple “no” doesn’t turn into a costly disaster.
