Luis de la Fuente, head coach of Spain, has shared his excitement regarding the inclusion of the young talent Lamine Yamal in the national squad ahead of vital World Cup qualifying matches. The promising Barcelona forward, who was recovering from a groin injury, has successfully returned just in time for the upcoming games against Georgia and Turkey.
At only 18, Yamal missed Spain's last two qualifying fixtures but has recently re-entered club competitions. Despite Barcelona's setback in a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid during El Clasico, Yamal remains a central figure in discussions surrounding Spanish football. His post-match encounter with several Real Madrid players has attracted significant media attention.
During a press briefing on Friday, de la Fuente reiterated his unwavering support for the young forward. "He’s fit again, and we’re thrilled to have him back," he noted, highlighting Yamal's crucial role in Spain's strategy. Addressing the media’s scrutiny, he advocated for patience and understanding as Yamal navigates his early career.
“The spotlight can be tough for him, but we're here to support him in growing both as a player and a person. His club and national team must provide that backing,” de la Fuente remarked.
Yamal's return is especially timely as Spain currently leads Group E in the European World Cup qualifiers. His inclusion strengthens the team’s attacking strength as they look toward a significant chance for automatic qualification. Spain is set to take on Georgia in Tbilisi on November 15, followed by a home clash against Turkey in Seville on November 18.
Alongside Yamal, Paris Saint-Germain's Fabian Ruiz is also making his comeback after recovering from a leg injury sustained during PSG's 2-1 win over Barcelona in early October.
However, the squad will be missing several key players, including Barcelona’s Pedri and Manchester City’s Rodri, who remain sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, Real Madrid’s captain Dani Carvajal, Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, and Atletico Madrid’s Robin Le Normand are out due to similar concerns.
As Spain seeks to solidify its position in the qualifiers, the resurgence of young talents such as Yamal brings enthusiasm and optimism to both the team and its fans. De la Fuente’s dedication to fostering youth while managing the pressures of international competition will be crucial for Spain’s aspirations in the World Cup.
