Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has highlighted that some of his players are still feeling the after-effects of last season as the team aims for consecutive Premier League victories at Brentford.
United have yet to win back-to-back league games under Amorim. After last weekend’s 2-1 win over Chelsea, the Red Devils now travel to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday with an opportunity to change that trend. Another victory would provide a crucial boost for Amorim and his squad.
Amorim admitted that achieving consecutive wins is a key step in helping the team move on from the trauma of last season, when Manchester United lost nearly half their league matches and finished 15th in the Premier League.
“I think if we start winning, it is not about ten wins in a row,” Amorim said. “I am talking about the second one, then the third one. The feeling will change. Some players have been here for a while, and that feeling is still present. To change that, we need to win games.”
United impressed with their performance against Chelsea last weekend and had also shown promise in their season opener against Arsenal. However, the team has struggled in matches against so-called smaller clubs, and Amorim has urged his players to approach the Brentford game with the same intensity as they would against the Premier League’s top six teams.
“The important thing is to do our maximum and face this game like we faced Liverpool last year or the way we started the season against Arsenal,” he said. “We should always have that excitement. If we don’t understand the momentum now, we have a big problem. The responsibility is on us to take the opportunity and win the next game.”
As Manchester United prepares for Brentford, all eyes will be on whether Amorim can guide his team to a second consecutive league victory and help rebuild confidence for the challenging season ahead.
