Organizers of the upcoming Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics have addressed concerns regarding the dimensions of the ice rinks, following feedback from hockey officials and North American journalists.
Scheduled to host events from February 6 to February 22, the Santa Giulia arena has faced accusations that its size does not accommodate NHL players' preferences. However, the organizers assert that the dimensions are both approved and secure.
The rink is set to measure 60 meters by 26 meters, a size that aligns with the standards of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and mirrors the measurements used in the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
All parties involved—including the IIHF, Olympic committee, NHL, and NHL Players' Union—have reached a consensus that these size discrepancies will not compromise the safety or quality of the games. This marks the return of NHL players to the Olympics for the first time since 2014.
The Santa Giulia arena is anticipated to open next month, hosting seven matches from the Italian league and cup as a test run between January 9 and 11.
