Mubadala Energy has entered into a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), an essential player in Indonesia’s national electricity supplier landscape, to provide gas from the Andaman Sea. This pivotal agreement plays a crucial role in Indonesia’s energy strategy, particularly as the nation seeks to bolster its energy autonomy and lessen its reliance on imported fuels.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to fortify Indonesia's energy resilience. Mubadala Energy and PLN EPI aim to draw on local gas sources to diminish the country’s dependence on LNG imports. The agreement emphasizes finding sustainable, long-term solutions to cater to the rising energy demands of Indonesia.
Prioritizing gas supply for North Sumatra and Aceh, the HoA highlights the significance of the Tangkulo gas field, which is situated approximately 65 kilometers off North Sumatra. This field boasts over 2 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas, establishing it as a vital resource for Indonesia's future energy requirements.
Abdulla Bu Ali, President Director of Mubadala Energy Indonesia, emphasized the company’s deep commitment to Indonesia through this agreement. He noted that the partnership will enable the delivery of dependable and sustainable energy solutions, marking a significant advancement for the development of the Tangkulo gas project in the South Andaman Sea.
Indonesia is actively enhancing its energy framework and diversifying its resources. This collaboration blends Mubadala Energy’s global expertise with PLN EPI’s robust local representation, ensuring a consistent and sustainable energy supply for millions of Indonesians long term.
Rakhmad Dewanto, President Director of PLN EPI, expressed enthusiasm about the Tangkulo gas field's development. He remarked that this collaboration is set to boost the nation’s power sector, while shifting towards cleaner and more secure energy alternatives.
The agreement signing was overseen by Djoko Siswanto, Chairman of SKK Migas, who affirmed that this marks a landmark moment in advancing the Tangkulo Project. The HoA will serve as a framework for future negotiations concerning technical and commercial aspects while reinforcing both companies’ contributions to Indonesia's energy prospects.
