Pakistan Sends Troops to Ensure Safety of Sri Lanka Cricket Team Following Islamabad Attack

Post by : Rameen Ariff

In light of a tragic suicide bombing in Islamabad, Pakistan has mobilized army and paramilitary forces to ensure the safety of Sri Lanka’s cricket team, as announced by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday. This decision comes amid growing security concerns associated with the ongoing cricket tour.

During a live televised parliamentary session, Minister Naqvi conveyed that Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir personally reassured Sri Lankan Defence Minister Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon about the team’s security. This statement reflects Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding international sports delegations visiting its borders.

The army’s deployment follows a series of recent attacks, including the Islamabad bombing that raised significant safety concerns for prominent visitors. In response, Pakistan has ramped up security measures across its major cities, emphasizing protection for foreign diplomats, sports teams, and other vulnerable targets.

Officials have confirmed that the army and paramilitary units are collaborating with local law enforcement to provide continuous protection for the Sri Lankan cricket team, ensuring their travels and matches occur without any security issues.

This proactive move underscores Pakistan’s dedication to restoring confidence among international teams and tourists, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining safety amidst ongoing regional security challenges. The cricketing community has reacted positively to the enhanced safety precautions, viewing them as essential for safeguarding players and associated personnel.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely, urging the public to remain vigilant while assuring that comprehensive security protocols are established for all international visitors.
