Major Operations in Bannu: 17 TTP Militants Neutralized

Major Operations in Bannu: 17 TTP Militants Neutralized

Post by : Rameen Ariff

In a pivotal anti-terror initiative, Pakistani security forces have confirmed the elimination of 17 militants from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a series of operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday. These targeted operations focused on extremist hideouts in the Sheri Khel and Pakka Pahar Khel areas of Bannu district, initiated due to credible intelligence regarding militant activities in the region.

The joint operation, spearheaded by Lakki Police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Bannu, and various security agencies, resulted in the neutralization of 10 militants, with five others sustaining injuries and one facilitator apprehended. Although bodies of seven militants were retrieved, challenging mountainous terrain prevented the recovery of three others.

In another coordinated eight-hour operation conducted by the Bannu Police, CTD, and security personnel, an additional seven militants were killed with further injuries reported. All participating police and security forces emerged unscathed, aided significantly by local residents who provided essential cooperation throughout the operations.

Authorities were able to seize an extensive stockpile of weapons and explosives from the militants, seriously curtailing their operational effectiveness. The cache included firearms, ammunition, and materials for constructing improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

In a related development, police successfully defused a 10-kg bomb concealed inside a ghee tin at Aabshar Chowk in Bannu. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sajjad Khan noted that the swift actions of the Bomb Disposal Squad prevented a potential disaster for local community members.

These recent operations are a part of the ongoing counter-terrorism strategy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, historically known for militant activity. Authorities have reiterated their resolve to eliminate extremist groups and uphold peace and stability in the area. Ongoing surveillance in the region aims to identify remaining threats, with community engagement proving crucial for the success of such efforts.

These actions are part of enhanced vigilance against extremist factions in Pakistan, demonstrating a united front among police, military, and counter-terrorism forces striving to dismantle militant networks and avert future threats.
