Poilievre Takes Aim at Carney’s Economic Legacy in Toronto Address

Poilievre Takes Aim at Carney’s Economic Legacy in Toronto Address

Post by : Shweta

During a recent address at the Canadian Club Toronto, Pierre Poilievre criticized Prime Minister Mark Carney’s economic record, claiming that the Canadian economy has deteriorated under his watch. Poilievre accused the Liberal government of not fulfilling its promises over the past year.

Speaking to an audience of business leaders, he laid out his vision for a more prosperous Canada, advocating for tax reductions and a decrease in regulatory burdens. He portrayed the importance of allowing private sector entities to flourish, viewing them as essential for economic recovery.

Pointing to rising living costs and diminished global competitiveness, Poilievre cited concerns from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business about a troubling trend of more businesses shutting down than opening across the nation.

The Conservative leader also took aim at Carney’s tenure as governor of the Bank of England, questioning his credentials based on past performance. Furthermore, he criticized the prime minister for delays on critical infrastructure and energy initiatives, including the Alberta oil pipeline project.

On the topic of trade, Poilievre admitted that Canada might face challenges with exports to the U.S. due to tariffs from the Trump administration. However, he disagreed with Carney's assertion that this indicates a lasting change in the bilateral economic relationship.

This address highlights the intensifying political discourse regarding Canada’s economic strategy, with Poilievre positioning himself as a key opponent to the current government while promoting market-driven alternatives ahead of upcoming elections.
