Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, announced on Friday that the U.S. peace proposals regarding Ukraine could be a foundation for conflict resolution. However, he cautioned that should Kyiv ignore the proposal, Russian troops might intensify their military maneuvers.
These statements emerged during increased global scrutiny of a peace effort put forth by U.S. President Donald Trump. This initiative demands that Ukraine acknowledge certain territories under Russian dominion, impose restrictions on NATO expansion, and provide various security assurances.
Trump indicated that Ukraine has until Thursday to react to the peace proposal. He stressed that the objective is to bring an end to the ongoing conflict while addressing Russia's strategic needs.
Putin’s comments suggest that Russia might halt further military actions if Ukraine accepts the U.S.-endorsed framework. Conversely, he remained open to the possibility of further advances should Kyiv decline.
The atmosphere remains fraught, with both nations facing pressure from the global community for a diplomatic resolution. Experts note that the upcoming days could be pivotal in deciding whether hostilities escalate or pave the way for negotiations.
