Putin Refrains from AI Use; Officials Embrace AI Technology

Putin Refrains from AI Use; Officials Embrace AI Technology

Post by : Rameen Ariff

On Thursday, the Kremlin disclosed that Russian President Vladimir Putin opts against the usage of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that although Putin himself does not engage with AI technology, several officials in his administration do utilize it.

Peskov highlighted that AI was recently employed to organize and filter citizen inquiries during Putin's annual Q&A session, which allows the public to directly address national and international matters.

This announcement follows Putin's call for a national initiative aimed at developing internal AI systems. He stressed the importance of indigenous generative AI models to uphold Russia's technological independence and diminish dependency on foreign tech.

The Kremlin's announcement not only clarifies Putin's personal viewpoint on AI but also showcases how Russian officials are increasingly integrating AI into their administrative frameworks and public interactions. This trend indicates a growing commitment to AI technology in governance, information management, and national security.

By separating his personal position from the government's broader AI adoption, Putin conveys a measured approach to AI while endorsing domestic efforts aimed at enhancing Russia's technological autonomy.
