Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has stated that he has no plans to resign, but he admitted that securing positive results is vital to maintaining his role at Old Trafford amid growing pressure following a difficult start to the season.
The Red Devils have already been eliminated from the League Cup after a shocking second-round defeat to fourth-tier side Grimsby Town and failed to qualify for European competition following last season’s disappointing 15th-place finish.
United currently sit 14th in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Liverpool, with just seven points from six matches. Amorim, 40, has overseen nine wins, 17 losses, and seven draws in 33 league games in charge. Speaking ahead of Saturday’s home clash against promoted Sunderland, he said, “No, that is a decision of the board. I cannot resign. Sometimes losing is hard, especially when momentum is lost between games. It frustrates me and affects the players and staff as well.”
He added that leaving would be difficult without giving his best to continue his career at the club. “Being at Manchester United is a dream. I want to stay and fight for this club. What hurts me most now is losing games, not worrying about my job. You fear losing your job when bills are involved, but I don’t have that feeling,” Amorim explained.
Acknowledging the challenges of managing a club of United’s stature, he said, “We understand that results are essential to continue the project. Balancing expectations at a big club with multiple owners and many sponsors is extremely difficult. We must reach a point where it works for everyone.”
This statement comes as scrutiny grows over Amorim’s tenure, with fans and analysts closely watching whether he can turn United’s poor form around this season.
