Congress leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has made a compelling appeal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to seriously consider the inclusion of 14-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian national cricket team. Highlighting Suryavanshi’s outstanding performances in domestic cricket, Tharoor emphasized that the young cricketer’s exceptional talent deserves immediate recognition at the highest level.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 2025 domestic season has been nothing short of extraordinary. The teenager has broken multiple records with his explosive batting, capturing the attention of cricket enthusiasts across the country. Recently, Suryavanshi smashed the fastest 150 in List A cricket history, a record previously held by South African great AB de Villiers. His blistering innings of 190 runs came off just 84 balls, featuring 15 towering sixes and numerous boundaries, showcasing a maturity and power rare for a player of his age.
In a public statement, Shashi Tharoor drew a parallel between Suryavanshi and one of India’s greatest cricket icons, Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar, who debuted internationally at the tender age of 16, had already displayed remarkable talent as a teenager. Tharoor urged India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar to recognize Suryavanshi’s immense potential and fast-track his journey into the Indian cricket team, stating, “The last time a fourteen-year-old showed such prodigious cricketing talent, it was Sachin Tendulkar – and we all know what became of him.”
Suryavanshi’s remarkable feats are part of a larger historic achievement by Bihar’s cricket team in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Bihar set a new world record for the highest team total in List A cricket, amassing a staggering 574 runs for the loss of just six wickets. The record-breaking innings was led by Suryavanshi, alongside captain Sakibul Gani and wicketkeeper Ayush Loharuka.
Captain Sakibul Gani contributed a phenomenal 128 runs off 40 balls, registering the fastest hundred by an Indian in List A cricket history. Meanwhile, Ayush Loharuka’s quickfire 116 off 56 balls further boosted Bihar’s record-setting total. Together, this young trio showcased a breathtaking display of aggressive, modern-day batting that overwhelmed their opponents and thrilled spectators.
The stunning performances of these young players have shone a bright spotlight on Bihar’s emerging cricket talents, igniting widespread calls for their recognition and opportunities at the national level. Many cricket analysts and fans alike are now urging the BCCI to reward Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s exceptional achievements by including him in India’s cricketing setup without delay.
As Indian cricket continues to nurture new generations of talent, Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise serves as a reminder of the game’s evolving future and the immense promise held by its youngest stars.
