Sonia Gandhi Admitted to Delhi Hospital Due to Mild Asthma Flare

Sonia Gandhi Admitted to Delhi Hospital Due to Mild Asthma Flare

Post by : Meena Ariff

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, aged 79, was admitted to a Delhi hospital on Monday evening following mild respiratory issues. Hospital sources confirmed that the admission was primarily precautionary, as Gandhi has a long-standing history of chronic cough and bronchial asthma.

Medical experts noted that the recent cold spell and high pollution levels in Delhi contributed to a mild exacerbation of her bronchial asthma. She has been prescribed antibiotics and other supportive medications and is reportedly responding well to the treatment.

Hospital officials stated that Gandhi is under the close supervision of a chest specialist. “Her condition is stable, and she is being monitored carefully. Doctors will determine her discharge based on her recovery, which is expected within a day or two,” said the hospital’s chairman.

This recent admission comes after earlier health concerns. In June 2025, Gandhi was hospitalized for a severe stomach infection and discharged after four days of treatment. The same month, she underwent a routine health check-up at a Shimla hospital, which confirmed her overall well-being.

Authorities emphasized that Gandhi’s current hospitalization is routine and precautionary, aimed at ensuring her well-being given her medical history. Family members and party colleagues have been kept informed, and hospital officials assured that there is no immediate cause for concern.

Gandhi continues to receive comprehensive care and is expected to make a full recovery while remaining under observation. Medical staff will monitor her condition closely until she is fully stable for discharge.
