In an inspiring story that has captured hearts across India, Delhi Police constable Sonika Yadav has proven that determination knows no limits. Competing while seven months pregnant, the officer lifted a staggering 145 kilograms at the All India Police Weightlifting Cluster 2025-26, securing a bronze medal and breaking stereotypes about women, strength, and motherhood.
The event, held in Andhra Pradesh, saw Sonika Yadav perform a 145 kg deadlift, a 125 kg squat, and an 80 kg bench press — remarkable achievements for any athlete, let alone a mother-to-be. Her performance stunned both judges and spectators, turning her into a national inspiration overnight.
A 2014-batch officer currently posted with the Community Policing Cell, Sonika Yadav said she was determined not to let pregnancy stop her passion for powerlifting. “I didn’t want pregnancy to be seen as a setback,” she shared, explaining that she trained throughout under her doctor’s supervision. She also sought guidance from fellow powerlifters to ensure her training was safe and effective.
Initially, Sonika’s husband believed she would take a break from the gym after discovering her pregnancy. However, Sonika Yadav had other plans. Determined to continue, she trained quietly and even concealed her baby bump under loose clothes during the competition. When her victory was announced, the crowd erupted in applause, celebrating her extraordinary willpower and courage.
The Delhi Police took to social media to congratulate her, calling the achievement a “moment of pride for the force.” Her story has since gone viral, symbolizing the strength, resilience, and confidence of modern Indian women.
For many working women and mothers, Sonika Yadav’s success sends a powerful message — that pregnancy is not a limitation but a phase of life where one’s strength, both mental and physical, can shine brightest. Her story redefines how society views motherhood and ambition, proving that women can lift not just weights but expectations too.
