Health authorities in Hamilton have reported a rise in salmonella infection cases associated with a local eatery, prompting ongoing investigations into the situation. The count of confirmed cases has surged to 13, an increase from the nine reported earlier this week.
The source of the outbreak has been traced back to Piper Arms Stoney Creek, which is situated on Stone Church Road East. Public health officials are diligently working to identify the cause of these infections in order to halt any further transmission.
Reports from Hamilton Public Health indicate that several affected individuals required medical care. Initially, seven hospitalizations were counted, but two cases involved individuals who received treatment in the emergency room and were subsequently discharged without being admitted. Following further evaluation, another hospitalization has been confirmed, raising the total to six.
In addition to the confirmed infections, about 44 more patrons have reported symptoms indicative of Salmonella after dining at this establishment. However, these cases are under investigation and remain unverified via laboratory tests.
Currently, health officials have not pinpointed a specific food item linked to the outbreak. Investigators are scrutinizing food handling protocols, ingredients, and kitchen conditions to uncover the source of the contamination.
As a preventive measure, health authorities have ordered the temporary closure of the restaurant. This decision aims to facilitate a comprehensive investigation and to ensure all safety regulations are upheld before the establishment can reopen.
Public health teams are closely analyzing the situation and urge anyone who has visited the restaurant and is exhibiting symptoms such as stomach cramping, diarrhea, fever, or vomiting to seek medical help immediately.
The inquiry is still active, and updates will be provided as lab results and inspections yield more insights into the outbreak's origin.
