Tim Hortons Manager Fired for Offering Teen Money to Marry Brother

Tim Hortons Manager Fired for Offering Teen Money to Marry Brother

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Ontario, Canada – A Tim Hortons manager in Ontario has been terminated after offering a 17-year-old employee approximately Rs 13 lakh to marry her Indian brother, allegedly to help him secure permanent residency in Canada. The incident came to light when the teenager’s uncle, Matt Monroe, reported the matter to the Ontario Provincial Police following his niece’s distress.

The offer reportedly came through text messages, in which the manager asked the teen, “Do you want Indian bf?” The teen revealed that the man was her 25-year-old brother seeking permanent residency. The manager allegedly offered between $15,000 and $20,000 to the teen to assist him in obtaining residency.

Monroe shared the screenshots on Facebook and confirmed that his niece was devastated by the situation, eventually quitting her job at the Tim Hortons branches in Wellington and Picton.

Tim Hortons, which operates through franchisees, confirmed the manager’s termination. A company spokesperson stated, “The restaurant owner terminated the manager involved as soon as the completely unacceptable situation came to light.”

No formal charges have been filed yet, but police are investigating potential marriage fraud and are seeking to speak with both the manager and the brother.

Under Section 292 of Canada’s Criminal Code, procuring or aiding in a feigned marriage is a serious offense, punishable with up to five years in prison. The law specifies that “any person who knowingly aids in procuring a feigned marriage is guilty of an indictable offense and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.”

This shocking case underscores the legal consequences of marriage fraud and the responsibility of workplaces to maintain safe and ethical conduct.
