In an electrifying finish, Brady Tkachuk emerged as the overtime hero, scoring just over two minutes into the extra period, leading the Ottawa Senators to a riveting 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night.
Tkachuk's match-winning goal materialized after Tim Stützle, showcasing his playmaking skills with three assists, found him open and delivered a smooth cross-ice pass, which Tkachuk blasted past Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck at Canada Life Centre.
Ottawa (15-13-1) also celebrated goals from Nick Cousins and Jake Sanderson, while Linus Ullmark played a vital role in goal, making 23 saves. Winnipeg (15-15-2) responded with goals from defensemen Neal Pionk and Logan Stanley, with Hellebuyck stopping 28 shots in his second game back from injury.
After a goalless first period, action ramped up in the second. Cousins broke the scoring freeze with a precise wrist shot before Pionk leveled it with a powerful shot from the blue line. Stanley then put the Jets ahead with his sixth goal of the season, marking a personal achievement.
The Senators equalized late in the third, as Sanderson’s shot deflected fortuitously into the net, pushing the game into overtime. Ottawa then capped off the comeback, thwarting the Jets' chance to end their recent streak of inconsistency.
The Jets will aim to recover on Wednesday against the St. Louis Blues, while the Senators draw confidence from this hard-fought road victory.
