Easter Egg Hunt Leads to Haunting Find of Possible Child Remains

Easter Egg Hunt Leads to Haunting Find of Possible Child Remains

Post by : Badri Ariffin

LONG BEACH, CA – What started as a festive Easter egg hunt evolved into a shocking discovery for a California family on Sunday, April 5, as they uncovered potential human remains, likely belonging to a young child, at DeForest Park.

The Long Beach Police Department received an urgent call from the family later that evening after they found a skull along with other bones scattered near the colorful Easter eggs. An investigation was promptly initiated, with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office arriving to assess the remains.

“Each investigation is distinct. Typically, we start by confirming if the remains are human, a determination that the Medical Examiner has yet to make in this case. There’s no set timeframe,” Lt. Benjamin Vargas shared with the Los Angeles Times.

Onlookers described the scene as surreal. Marc Zaldana, who was at the park nearby, recounted to KCBS, “Initially, we saw the family engaged in the Easter egg hunt, but they appeared to be a bit panicked. I can only imagine how they felt.”

As of Monday, April 6, Long Beach police were awaiting critical results from forensic anthropology. If the remains are verified as human, identification might take as long as three weeks using methods like dental records, fingerprints, or DNA. However, in instances where remains are skeletal or decomposed, this process could stretch to months or even years.

The community has been profoundly affected by this unsettling discovery, underscoring the unexpected realities that can disrupt even the most cherished family celebrations. Authorities remain focused on uncovering the details surrounding these remains.
