WASHINGTON, Nov 17, 2025 – Former President Donald Trump has called on Republican members of Congress to support the release of documents linked to the late Jeffrey Epstein, reversing his previous view on the matter. This appeal coincides with increasing scrutiny over Epstein’s connections to several prominent figures, including Trump himself, who has repeatedly denied any misconduct.
In a post on Sunday night, Trump urged House Republicans to back the proposal, stating, “we have nothing to hide,” marking a significant change as Democrats continue to unveil parts of Epstein-related documents that were previously kept under wraps.
The files, which House Democrats are progressively making available, detail Epstein’s associations with various high-profile individuals and have sparked significant public discourse about these past ties, leading to extensive media coverage and debate.
Supporters of Trump, numbering potentially in the dozens in the House, seem poised to diverge from party lines to endorse legislation that would require the federal government to disclose all records related to Epstein and ongoing investigations. Analysts predict the bill has a good shot at passing the House this week, though its chances in the Senate remain in question.
Epstein, once a financier with multiple criminal convictions, died in a New York City jail in 2019, with officials classifying his death as suicide while he was facing serious sex trafficking allegations, subsequent to a 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor.
In response to the growing controversy, Trump labeled the focus on these files as a Democrat-crafted “hoax” intended to distract from their legislative agenda. He stated on Truth Social, “The Department of Justice has already released tens of thousands of pages to the public on 'Epstein.'” He criticized Democrats for their exploitation of the situation to undermine his party and urged Republicans to “stay focused.”
Mike Johnson, the Republican House Speaker, echoed Trump's assertions during a Fox News interview, asserting that the movement to disclose these files represents “the entire game plan” of the opposition. Johnson emphasized Trump’s “clean hands” narrative while expressing frustration over the politicization surrounding Epstein.
Following the potential release of these documents, scrutiny on both political parties may heighten while also shedding light on Epstein’s complicated network. Analysts suggest this could serve not only to bolster Republican unity but also as a proactive measure to mitigate any potential political damage as elections draw near.
As the House vote approaches, attention from across the nation is focused on balancing demands for transparency with the ongoing political discussions related to Epstein and his influential connections. The developments underscore the complex interplay between justice, media attention, and partisan politics in the United States.
