US President Donald Trump has announced that the dispute with Iran is “approaching an end,” following recent military maneuvers, including a naval blockade aimed at Iranian ports.
In an interview, Trump asserted that US military actions have effectively curtailed Iranian operations near critical areas such as the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil transit route. According to US officials, the blockade is designed to safeguard international shipping while exerting pressure on Tehran.
Trump pointed out that the pressure has considerably diminished Iran's strategic leverage. He warned that if the US were to withdraw now, it could take many years for Iran to restore its infrastructure and military capabilities. He also reinforced that any negotiations would center around preventing Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons, a non-negotiable aspect of any future agreements.
Despite the heightened tensions, Trump suggested a possible resumption of diplomatic discussions, mentioning that Islamabad could host the next round of talks soon, following unsuccessful negotiations earlier. The President credited Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, for his efforts in fostering discourse between both nations.
The conflict, which escalated in recent months, has involved both military actions and diplomatic efforts. While a formal agreement has not yet been reached, Trump’s comments indicate that there may still be a chance for negotiations to resume and potentially resolve the ongoing crisis.
Nevertheless, he made it clear that any forthcoming agreement would not allow for concessions on critical security issues, particularly concerning Iran's nuclear developments. As global attention remains riveted on this volatile situation, the upcoming days will be pivotal in deciding whether diplomacy or renewed hostilities will define the next chapter in US-Iran relations.
