Donald Trump has unveiled a 15-point peace proposal aimed at de-escalating the ongoing West Asia conflict, signaling a potential diplomatic breakthrough with Iran despite continued tensions in the region.
The proposal reportedly includes a one-month ceasefire, a strict commitment from Iran to abandon nuclear weapons development, and a pathway toward lifting US sanctions. In return, Iran would gain access to civilian nuclear cooperation, particularly at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
According to reports, the plan was conveyed through backchannel diplomacy, with Pakistan playing a mediating role. Discussions are believed to involve senior officials, though Tehran has not issued an official confirmation.
A key development came as Iran announced conditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, allowing “non-hostile” vessels safe passage. This move is seen as a signal of limited cooperation, given the waterway’s global importance for oil transport.
However, Iran has attached significant conditions to any agreement. These include security guarantees against future US attacks, removal of sanctions, closure of US military bases in the region, and compensation for war-related damages.
In exchange, Tehran has indicated willingness to reduce uranium enrichment, pause ballistic missile development for up to five years, and allow inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Meanwhile, military tensions remain high. Reports suggest the US is considering deploying additional troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to the region, highlighting the fragile nature of the situation.
The proposal comes amid continued hostilities involving Israel and Iran, including missile exchanges and accusations over attacks on nuclear infrastructure.
While the peace plan marks a significant diplomatic effort, analysts note that deep mistrust between the two sides and conflicting regional interests could complicate negotiations in the coming weeks.
