Former U.S. President Donald Trump officially opened his new golf course in Scotland today, concluding a busy five-day visit. During this trip, Trump signed a major trade agreement with the European Union and issued a strict warning to Russia, demanding an end to the war in Ukraine within less than two weeks.
Opening Ceremony at the Scottish Coast
The opening took place on a large and beautiful piece of land on the Aberdeenshire coast. The atmosphere was lively, with the sounds of traditional Scottish bagpipes playing in the background. Secret agents and golfers moved around the expansive golf complex as everyone waited for Trump to start the ceremony.
Before cutting the ribbon, Trump expressed his pride in the new golf course. He said, “We started with a beautiful piece of land, but we made it much more beautiful, and the area has welcomed us.” After the ribbon cutting, he joked that they would play golf quickly before he returned to Washington, D.C. to “put out fires all over the world.” He added optimistically, “We have a world that’s got some conflict, but we’ve ironed out a lot of it. We’re gonna have a great and peaceful world.”
Trump’s campaign song, “YMCA” by the Village People, played loudly as fireworks lit up the sky to celebrate the occasion. The president then took to the golf course to tee off alongside his son Eric Trump, who led the project.
A Family Project and Business Highlight
Donald Trump praised the golf course as a place where people can come to enjoy life. He pointed out how this trip mixed his role as a public figure with his business interests. Eric Trump spoke highly of the project, calling it “the greatest 36 holes anywhere on Earth.” He described the golf course as his father’s “Mona Lisa,” referring to Trump’s connection with the land.
Eric said that designing the course was like “sculpting the dunes” and “painting a masterpiece,” highlighting the effort to create something unique and beautiful.
Features of the New Golf Course
The new golf course boasts the world’s largest natural bunker and features dunes and greens with stunning views overlooking the sea. The project was also designed with a focus on environmental sensitivity, according to a press release.
Visible from the course were offshore wind turbines, which Trump had tried unsuccessfully to stop during his time as president. Trump used the visit to speak out against wind power once again.
Trade Deal and Political Discussions
During his stay, Trump hosted important leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. On Sunday, with von der Leyen, he announced a trade deal in which the EU agreed to a 15 percent tariff on goods entering the United States. This deal was criticized by many across Europe, who felt it was not favorable to the EU.
On Monday, at a press conference with UK Prime Minister Starmer, Trump promised increased aid for Gaza. He also issued a sharp warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, giving him “10 or 12 days” to stop the war in Ukraine.
“I felt it was going to end. But every time I think it’s going to end, he kills people,” Trump said, speaking about Putin’s actions. “I’m not so interested in talking to him anymore,” he added.
Trump’s Criticism of UK Politics and Energy Policies
Trump also criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan during the press conference. On Tuesday, he used his social media platform, Truth Social, to weigh back into UK politics by urging the government to cut taxes and encourage more oil drilling in the North Sea.
He called wind turbines “ugly monsters” and urged the UK to “incentivize the drillers, FAST.” Trump claimed that increasing oil drilling would bring a “vast fortune” to the UK and lower energy costs for its people.
Leisure and Diplomacy
During his trip, Trump combined leisure with diplomacy by playing golf at his other Scottish course in Turnberry over the weekend. The visit blended business, politics, and relaxation as Trump prepared to return to Washington, D.C., today.
Donald Trump’s visit to Scotland marked the opening of a major golf course project that highlights his business ties outside the United States. The trip also included important diplomatic moments, such as signing a trade deal with the EU and setting a deadline for Russia to end the war in Ukraine. Throughout the visit, Trump continued to express strong opinions on energy policies and international relations, demonstrating his ongoing influence in global politics even as he mixes business and diplomacy abroad.
