The Trump administration has introduced a significant initiative, announcing a $1.7 billion “Anti-Weaponisation Fund” aimed at compensating individuals who assert they were unfairly subjected to political investigations or prosecutions.
This fund is reportedly tied to a legal settlement related to Trump’s allegations against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding the unauthorized release of his tax returns. The total allocation for the fund stands at $1.776 billion.
Under this program, individuals who contend they were targeted by government agencies or investigations motivated by political bias can seek financial redress. The initiative is anticipated to encompass cases linked to inquiries conducted during the tenure of former President Joe Biden.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized that the initiative is intended to help individuals who perceive they have suffered from “lawfare” and the political misuse of governmental power.
“The machinery of government should never be weaponized against any American,” Blanche stated in his remarks. He reiterated that the Department of Justice aims to rectify past injustices and to prevent such actions from recurring.
The announcement has ignited political discussions in the United States, with advocates viewing it as a move toward accountability, while detractors question the management of the compensation process.
