Tulasi Says Goodbye: A 58-Year Journey in Telugu and Tamil Cinema

Tulasi Says Goodbye: A 58-Year Journey in Telugu and Tamil Cinema

Post by : Meena Ariff

Renowned actor Tulasi, who started her career as a child artist, has taken to Instagram to declare her retirement from the film industry. She bid farewell to her incredible 58-year journey in Telugu and Tamil cinema, which commenced when she was just three months old.

In her posts, Tulasi shared an image of Sai Baba's feet along with the words: “Guard and guide me and my son Sai!! oh deva, oh Sainadha.” She included a thoughtful quote: “Trust your intuition. There is no need to explain or justify how you feel to anyone; just trust your instincts, for it knows best.” Later, she confirmed her retirement with the message: “Happy retirement! Here’s to enjoying every bit of your new-found freedom and adventures.” She elaborated on her choice, stating: “As I continue my shirdi darshan this December 31, I wish myself a happy retirement. I will proceed on my path in peace with SAINADHA. Grateful to everyone who has helped me learn the essence of life. SAIRAM.”

Born on June 20, 1967, Tulasi made her debut in Telugu cinema at a mere three months of age, thanks to a request from her mother’s friend Savitri, who wanted her in a cradle for a song in the movie Bharya. She quickly became a beloved child actor, recognized for her roles in acclaimed films such as Seetamalakshmi (1978), Sankarabharanam (1979), and Mudda Mandaram (1981).

After tying the knot with Kannada director Sivamani at 28, Tulasi briefly exited the film scene, occasionally lending her voice in projects, including some of Mani Ratnam’s films. She made a remarkable comeback in 2003 with the Kannada film Excuse Me, portraying the role of a mother that became her hallmark. Following this, she featured in many successful films like Mr Perfect, Iddarammayilatho, and Dear Comrade, and participated in popular shows such as Oka Chinna Family Story.
