The United Nations has voiced significant alarm regarding the escalating violence in Lebanon, particularly after Israeli shelling struck southern Beirut on Thursday. The organization cautioned that rising tensions risk exacerbating the already fragile situation in the region.
A representative of the UN Secretary-General urged all involved parties to adhere to the ceasefire and avoid launching additional assaults. Emphasizing the necessity for stability, the spokesperson highlighted the critical need to prevent further escalation.
Moreover, the United Nations condemned unequivocally any attacks aimed at civilians and their infrastructure. All conflicting parties were encouraged to act responsibly and adhere to international humanitarian principles.
This recent shelling in southern Beirut heightens concerns regarding a potential broadening of the conflict, amid ongoing calls from global leaders for restraint and a pursuit of peaceful dialogue.
