The much-anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good, has outperformed all expectations at the box office during its opening weekend. Featuring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the film was originally forecasted to generate $145 million in North America, but it astonishingly exceeded this by earning $150 million domestically.
This achievement sets a new benchmark for film adaptations of Broadway musicals, now ranking as the third-largest domestic opening weekend for any musical, trailing only Disney’s The Lion King (2019) and Beauty and the Beast (2017). The previous installment, Wicked, had a $111 million opening weekend, and this sequel has decisively surpassed that figure.
Globally, Wicked: For Good added an impressive $76 million, resulting in a total of $226 million within just three days. This achievement positions the movie as the 18th highest-grossing film of 2025, outpacing titles such as Snow White, Joker: Folie à Deux, and One Battle After Another.
Based on the beloved Broadway musical and Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, the film reimagines the story of The Wizard of Oz. In this installment, Glinda and Elphaba, now known as the Wicked Witch of the West, confront the nefarious plans of The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh).
