Pushpalatha, the mother of acclaimed Kannada actor Yash, has filed a formal complaint alleging significant fraud, mishandling of funds, and intimidation by film promoter Harish Arasu and his associates. She stepped into the film industry as a producer with her debut project Kothalavadi, claiming that Harish failed to fulfill promotional agreements while amassing considerable amounts of money in her name.
The FIR registered at the High Grounds Police Station reveals that Pushpalatha entrusted Harish Arasu to promote Kothalavadi, filmed from 24 May 2025 to mid-July in locations such as Talakadu, Gundlupet, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar. They agreed on a promotional fee of Rs 23 lakh.
Pushpalatha asserts that on 18 May 2025, Harish received Rs 10 lakh, and another Rs 5 lakh on 21 May, alongside an additional Rs 24 lakh collected through various channels tied to the film, totaling an alleged misappropriation of Rs 64,87,700. This includes Rs 4 lakh paid in cash on 31 July for advertisements.
Despite these payments, she claims no promotional efforts were made for the film set for release on 1 August 2025. While a trailer launch occurred on 23 July, she states Yash had to personally spend Rs 21,75,000 due to Harish's negligence in promotional activities. Additionally, multiple social media and film promoters went unpaid.
When Pushpalatha confronted Harish about the lack of promotion, she alleges he threatened her, demanding Rs 27 lakh in return. She reports that no promotional material was available on release day, and later unearthed that Harish was disseminating negative content. He purportedly threatened to spread defamatory information about her online and disrupt her home life.
Her complaint also highlights that actors Mahesh Guru and Swarnalatha (Rannayak), allegedly influenced by Harish, shared derogatory comments about her on social media, harming her reputation.
On 15 August 2025, Pushpalatha and the film's director, Shriraj Ravari, reportedly received threatening calls from Harish Arasu, Manu, Nitin, and other unidentified individuals.
Through her complaint, Pushpalatha has urged the High Grounds Police Station to pursue legal action against Harish Arasu, Manu, Nitin, Mahesh Guru, and Swarnalatha (Rannayak) for offenses including cheating, criminal intimidation, defamation, and conspiracy.
The case has attracted significant attention within the Kannada film industry due to the involvement of well-known figures and the alleged misappropriation of a considerable sum needed for film promotion. Authorities are expected to investigate and summon those named in the FIR for questioning.
