Thailand officially launched the 15th Thai Silk Festival on the Global Stage in Bangkok, bringing together government representatives, diplomatic missions, and cultural organizations to celebrate one of the country's most treasured cultural symbols. The event was held at the Royal Thai Navy Auditorium and highlighted Thailand’s commitment to preserving and promoting its traditional heritage.
Representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Captain Soongsak Akrapreeedi, Deputy Secretary of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, attended the opening ceremony along with his wife and other ministry representatives. Their participation reflected the government's broad support for cultural initiatives that strengthen national identity and international recognition.
The festival was organized through cooperation between government agencies and related sectors to commemorate the 48th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana. The event serves as a tribute to the Queen while also emphasizing the importance of preserving Thai cultural traditions for future generations.
Thai silk has long been regarded as one of the nation's most valuable cultural assets. Known for its intricate craftsmanship, vibrant colors, and unique weaving techniques, Thai silk represents centuries of local wisdom and artistic excellence. The festival provides a platform to showcase these traditions to both domestic and international audiences.
A key objective of the event is to strengthen Thailand’s cultural diplomacy. Through the participation of foreign embassies and diplomatic missions based in Thailand, organizers aim to increase global appreciation for Thai silk and encourage international cultural exchange. The festival also helps create new opportunities for local artisans and textile producers.
Various exhibitions, cultural presentations, and fashion displays featuring traditional and contemporary Thai silk designs are expected to attract significant attention throughout the event. These activities highlight the versatility of Thai silk while demonstrating how traditional craftsmanship can remain relevant in modern fashion and design.
Organizers believe the festival will further enhance Thailand’s image on the international stage while encouraging greater awareness of the value of cultural preservation. By connecting heritage with global audiences, the event reinforces the country's dedication to safeguarding its traditions and sharing them with the world.
