Post by : Maya Rahman

His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated the 17th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. This prestigious event is held under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council. Taking place at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City, the championship will continue until November 22.

During his visit to the opening day’s events, Sheikh Zayed recognized numerous winners in the amateur category. He noted that the championship serves as a crucial platform for discovering emerging talent and nurturing future champions. The event embodies the UAE’s forward-thinking leadership in fostering Jiu-Jitsu, promoting athletes, and enhancing the nation’s standing in international sports.

Sheikh Zayed emphasized the significance of Jiu-Jitsu in instilling essential values such as discipline, perseverance, and determination in young people, ultimately shaping a generation poised to represent the UAE on global and continental platforms.

Expressing profound gratitude, His Excellency Abdulmunem Al Sayed Mohammed Al Hashemi, President of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, commended His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for their unwavering support and commitment to advancing Jiu-Jitsu. He highlighted the UAE's emergence as a global leader in promoting the sport and its core values.

Al Hashemi remarked that the presence of Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed at this edition of the championship reflects the leadership’s commitment to cultivating a new generation of champions who will elevate the UAE’s flag in prestigious international competitions. The event symbolizes the UAE’s investment in its human capital and belief in the potential of its youth.

Furthermore, Al Hashemi noted that this championship has evolved into an international platform that fosters cultural connections and ignites new talent, positioning the UAE as a world-class sports destination known for professionalism, respect, discipline, and peace.

This year’s championship hosts over 10,000 male and female competitors from around the globe, making it one of the largest and most distinguished Jiu-Jitsu events on the international calendar. The championship commenced with the amateur category and will unfold through several exhilarating stages, including the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival.

The festival's competitions will cater to children, juniors, and youth from November 13 to 15. Para Jiu-Jitsu events are scheduled for November 13, followed by junior and youth competitions on November 16 and 17. Masters’ matches will take place on November 18 and 19, with the grand professional bouts concluding the championship on November 20, 21, and 22.

This championship not only reaffirms the UAE’s preeminence in Jiu-Jitsu but also bolsters Abu Dhabi’s reputation as the global capital of the sport, promoting values of sportsmanship, unity, and international camaraderie, central to the UAE’s vision for sports development and youth empowerment.
