The third edition of the Water and Energy Majlis was hosted by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, centered around the theme “From National Readiness to Smart Resilience.” This event is part of the Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week, set for the end of 2026.
A significant moment of the event was the launch of the Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Resilience Framework, which was showcased during a high-level discussion featuring Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak and Dr Abdulla Ahmed Al Mandous. This session saw moderation by Dr Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy.
The framework is constructed around three essential pillars: infrastructure; human capital and governance; and technology and innovation. It encompasses 15 strategic measures designed to enhance the resilience, reliability, and efficiency of the UAE’s water and energy systems, focusing on supply security, emergency readiness, resource diversification, and overall system management.
This Majlis is a component of the “Our Foundation is Strong” initiative launched in 2026 by the department, gathering ministers and senior officials from over 30 nations, alongside experts from the water and energy sectors.
Conversations revolved around improving regional collaboration, enhancing emergency response mechanisms, and incorporating digital and AI technologies for crisis management. Attendees also examined the formation of a unified regional framework to bolster water and energy resilience.
Dr Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan emphasized the necessity for heightened collaboration among national and regional entities, calling for an integrated regulatory approach to safeguard resources and enhance service dependability.
The UAE's Ministry of Climate Change and Environment showcased the country's holistic strategy toward water, energy, and food security, aligning with the net-zero 2050 goal through climate-smart practices such as efficient desalination and circular economy initiatives.
The UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 aims to improve demand management while expanding sustainable water production. Global cooperation is further promoted through efforts like the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative.
Dr Abdulla Ahmed Al Mandous, President of the World Meteorological Organization, highlighted the significance of precise weather monitoring and early warning systems in safeguarding water and energy infrastructure, touting the UAE’s sophisticated meteorological network, AI technology for forecasting, cloud seeding advancements, and regional data collaboration.
The Majlis concluded with appeals for enhanced collaboration, uniform regulatory frameworks, and the establishment of specialized task forces to boost crisis response and ensure lasting water and energy security across the region.
