In a collaborative effort between the Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development (DCD) and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), results from the fourth Abu Dhabi Sports and Physical Activity Survey have been released. The latest data indicates a significant surge in physical activity across the emirate, showcasing the effectiveness of initiatives aimed at fostering a healthier lifestyle among residents.
Conducted in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) standards, the 2025 survey garnered around 31,000 responses, a notable increase from 21,000 in 2024 and 19,000 in 2023. This rise reflects the survey's growing outreach through collaborative efforts with a range of organizations, including government entities, universities, and community groups in Abu Dhabi.
The findings demonstrate that the overall rate of physical activity participation in Abu Dhabi climbed to 60.3 percent in 2025, an increase from 53.6 percent in the prior year. This marks a commendable rise in the number of individuals engaging in routine physical activity and illustrates the emirate's dedication to promoting sports as an integral part of daily life.
Among UAE Nationals, participation rates also saw a notable rise. Emirati citizens reported a physical activity level of 54.3 percent in 2025, a significant increase from 45.6 percent in 2024. This upward trend underscores a heightened awareness regarding the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.
Among children and adolescents, the percentage meeting the WHO-recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity rose from 12.5 percent in 2024 to 14.8 percent in 2025. Although there is still room for refining these numbers, the results represent a promising advancement toward establishing healthier habits within younger demographics.
People of Determination (PoD) also showcased positive strides. Those engaging in weekly physical activity in accordance with WHO guidelines reached 46.5 percent, up from 43.7 percent in the previous year. This increase reflects persistent efforts to create inclusive sports opportunities for every community member.
Additionally, the survey indicated rising satisfaction rates with the sports-related services and events in Abu Dhabi. Satisfaction with the activities organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and its affiliates climbed to 83 percent, compared to 78 percent in 2024.
Likewise, satisfaction levels concerning sports facilities and infrastructure improved, reaching 78 percent in 2025, up from 76 percent the previous year. This demonstrates an ongoing enhancement of sports venues and community amenities across the emirate.
Awareness around community sports events also saw a significant boost, rising from 21 percent in 2024 to 25 percent in 2025. Concurrently, awareness of major international sporting events hosted in Abu Dhabi grew from 22 percent to 24 percent during this timeframe.
His Excellency Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Empowerment at DCD, remarked that these survey results signify Abu Dhabi's ongoing momentum in establishing sports as a sustainable lifestyle choice. He pointed out that this accomplishment stems from robust collaboration between government entities, private sector stakeholders, and community organizations.
Al Balooshi affirmed that Abu Dhabi will continue to enhance its sports and community infrastructure, including walking and cycling paths, and introduce sports programs customized for various demographics, including seniors and People of Determination.
He also emphasized the importance of employing a data-driven approach to evaluate community needs and gauge the impact of these initiatives, ensuring alignment with Abu Dhabi's vision of investing in its people as a foundational element of progress.
Hamda Al Mansoori, Executive Director of Strategic Affairs at ADSC, noted that the latest survey cycle showcases the success of initiatives aimed at encouraging residents to adopt active lifestyles. She stated that these findings bolster the joint mission of DCD and ADSC to cultivate a vibrant, healthy, and sustainable sporting community.
Al Mansoori highlighted that the survey provides invaluable insights into physical activity levels across the society, assisting authorities in crafting improved sports programs, optimizing community initiatives, and promoting health-conscious habits among all population segments.
In summary, the latest survey yields a wealth of detailed data on the outcomes of sports events and community competitions within Abu Dhabi. This information is poised to aid future analysis and guide innovative solutions aimed at boosting sports participation while enhancing public health and overall quality of life.
The results of the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sports and Physical Activity Survey underscore the emirate's enduring commitment to fostering a healthier and more active community. With improved infrastructure, inclusive programs, and heightened community engagement, Abu Dhabi is steadily advancing towards establishing a sustainable culture of sport and wellness for all its residents.
