Akasa Air has reaffirmed its long-term growth plans, stating that global geopolitical tensions and rising fuel prices have not altered its expansion roadmap. The airline remains focused on increasing capacity and strengthening its position in India's rapidly growing aviation market.
Airline Eyes 30% Capacity Growth
According to Chief Financial Officer Ankur Goel, Akasa Air is targeting a 30 percent increase in capacity during the current financial year. The airline is also aiming for annual growth of 30 to 40 percent over the next four to five years as it continues to expand its domestic and international presence.
Fleet Expansion Continues
During FY26, the airline added 10 new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, taking its total fleet strength to 39 aircraft. The expansion has enabled Akasa Air to increase network capacity while maintaining its strategy of operating a modern all-new fleet without legacy leased planes.
Strong Financial Performance
Akasa Air described FY26 as a milestone year, reporting a 37 percent rise in operating revenue compared to the previous year. The airline also improved its financial performance by narrowing losses and remaining EBITDA-positive for six months during the fiscal year.
Fuel Costs Remain A Challenge
The airline acknowledged that rising aviation fuel prices linked to tensions in West Asia continue to put pressure on operating costs. However, management believes the situation is temporary and remains confident about its ability to manage the challenges through careful planning and financial discipline.
International Expansion On Track
Currently, around one-fourth of Akasa Air's capacity is deployed on international routes. The carrier serves 27 domestic destinations and seven international destinations and plans to further expand its global footprint in the coming years.
Long-Term Vision Remains Unchanged
Backed by a recent capital infusion, Akasa Air says it has sufficient liquidity to support future growth and navigate market volatility. The airline remains committed to its ambitious target of building a fleet of 226 aircraft by 2032 while continuing pilot recruitment and capacity-building initiatives.
