Algeria secured their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday after a convincing 3-0 victory over Somalia. This win makes Algeria the fourth African team to qualify for next year’s finals in North America, following Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt.
The match saw Mohamed Amoura score twice, taking his total to eight goals in the ongoing World Cup qualifying campaign. Algeria’s captain Riyad Mahrez also contributed with a goal to complete the 3-0 scoreline. The victory gives Algeria an unassailable 22 points in Group G, even with one match still remaining.
This qualification marks Algeria’s fifth World Cup finals appearance but their first since the 2014 tournament in Brazil. Algeria has shown consistent performance throughout the qualifiers, and this win confirms their dominance in Group G.
The African qualification format allows the top team from each of the nine groups to automatically qualify for the World Cup finals in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Algeria’s strong performance ensures they will be competing among the world’s best next year.
Fans and football experts have praised Algeria for their skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the qualifying campaign. With Mohamed Amoura and Riyad Mahrez leading the attack, Algeria looks set to make a strong impression in North America at the 2026 World Cup.
