Auckland, New Zealand: The All Blacks held off a determined Wallabies comeback to win 33-24 in a hard-fought Rugby Championship test on Saturday, retaining the Bledisloe Cup for another year. The match, played at Eden Park, saw Cam Roigard return from injury to score two crucial tries, underlining New Zealand’s dominance in the historic rivalry.
New Zealand started the match strongly, with early tries from Caleb Clarke, Leroy Carter, and scrumhalf Cam Roigard, giving the All Blacks a commanding 17-point lead. The early momentum was key as New Zealand controlled possession and executed sharp attacking plays, keeping the Wallabies on the back foot.
Australia, however, did not give up easily. The Wallabies launched a spirited comeback, with flanker Carlo Tizzano scoring 11 minutes from full time, reducing the deficit to just two points. Despite the intense pressure, New Zealand maintained composure and prevented Australia from taking the lead.
A significant moment in the match came in the 73rd minute when Wallabies winger Harry Potter received a yellow card for a foul, leaving Australia with one player less during the critical final minutes. The All Blacks capitalized on the numerical advantage, with Roigard scoring his second try to extend the lead and secure the 33-24 victory.
The win extends the All Blacks’ unbeaten run at Eden Park to 52 consecutive tests over 31 years, demonstrating their consistent strength on home soil. The victory also puts New Zealand at the top of the Rugby Championship standings, ahead of Argentina’s match against South Africa in the penultimate round of the tournament.
This test match highlights New Zealand’s tactical excellence, combining fast-paced attacking rugby with disciplined defense. Cam Roigard’s return was particularly impactful, showing his ability to influence key moments in high-stakes international rugby.
The Wallabies’ performance, while spirited, revealed areas for improvement in discipline and finishing under pressure. Despite the loss, Australia remains competitive and will look to challenge New Zealand in future encounters, particularly in the ongoing Rugby Championship.
