The Government of India has intensified its efforts to strengthen border security with Union Home Minister Amit Shah directing authorities to take strict action against illegal constructions located within 15 kilometers of the country's international borders. The decision has received strong support from residents living in border villages across Jammu, who believe the move will help curb smuggling networks and anti-national activities.
Border communities, often regarded as the first line of civilian support for security forces, have welcomed the government's zero-tolerance approach. Villagers say unauthorized structures in sensitive border regions have long raised concerns about their possible use by criminal networks involved in narcotics trafficking and cross-border operations.
According to official directives, district administrations have been instructed to identify and remove illegal constructions that have emerged over the years in border areas. Authorities have also been asked to closely monitor suspicious financial transactions, investigate fake identification documents, and examine funding sources linked to businesses operating near the frontier.
The Home Minister has emphasized the importance of coordinated action between multiple agencies, including the Border Security Force, local police, intelligence agencies, and civil administration. The objective is to dismantle networks involved in infiltration, illegal trade, and organized cross-border crime that threaten national security.
Residents of border districts such as Suchetgarh, R S Pura, and Samba have voiced strong support for the initiative. Many believe that proceeds generated through drug smuggling have contributed to the construction of several suspicious properties. Locals argue that stronger enforcement measures will disrupt the financial ecosystem supporting illegal activities in the region.
The crackdown comes amid growing concerns about narcotics trafficking along the international border. Villagers have repeatedly highlighted the impact of drug smuggling on local youth, alleging that criminal groups attempt to exploit vulnerable communities while undermining social stability and public safety.
In parallel, the administration of Jammu and Kashmir has expanded its anti-drug campaign in recent months. More than one hundred properties linked to alleged drug traffickers and their associates have reportedly been demolished or attached as part of ongoing enforcement efforts. Officials believe the combined measures will strengthen border management, improve security, and send a strong message against illegal activities operating near India's frontiers.
