Amnesty Accuses Israel of Starving Palestinians in Gaza

Amnesty Accuses Israel of Starving Palestinians in Gaza

Post by : Meena Ariff

A major human rights organization has accused Israel of intentionally causing hunger in the Gaza Strip. According to the group, Israel is following a planned policy to restrict food and aid, creating a serious humanitarian crisis for the people living there. This warning comes as international organizations, including the United Nations, have raised concerns about famine spreading rapidly in the region.

Israel has placed heavy restrictions on the entry of food, medicine, and other essential supplies into Gaza. Despite these claims, Israel has repeatedly denied that it is intentionally starving the population. The conflict in Gaza has been ongoing for nearly two years, and the humanitarian situation is becoming more critical with each passing day.

Evidence From Gaza Shows Severe Malnutrition

The human rights organization’s report is based on interviews with 19 displaced Palestinians living in temporary camps, as well as medical workers from two major hospitals in Gaza City. The testimonies reveal a grim reality: many children are suffering from severe malnutrition, while families struggle to find enough food to survive.

The report states clearly that Israel is “carrying out a deliberate campaign of starvation” in Gaza. It explains that these actions are harming not only the health of the people but also the social and emotional fabric of Palestinian life. According to the report, Israel’s policies and military actions are designed to make daily life extremely difficult for the people living in Gaza. The report also describes these measures as part of what it calls an ongoing genocide against Palestinians.

Children and Families Suffer Most

Children are among the hardest hit by the food shortages. Many young children are reported to be malnourished, and pregnant women, elderly people, and other vulnerable groups are also facing life-threatening food scarcity. Families have been forced to move to temporary displacement camps under harsh conditions. These camps often lack clean water, proper sanitation, and adequate medical care.

Doctors and nurses working in Gaza hospitals have confirmed that they are treating children suffering from extreme malnutrition. Hospitals are overwhelmed with patients, and the shortage of food and medicine is making it very difficult for medical staff to provide proper care. Many families are living in fear, worrying daily about how they will feed their children and survive.

Israel’s Response to Accusations

The Israeli government, including its military and foreign ministry, has not immediately responded to the latest report. Previously, Israel’s defense ministry, through the COGAT body responsible for civil affairs in Palestinian areas, rejected claims of widespread malnutrition. They have also disputed the statistics provided by Gaza’s health authorities.

In April, the same human rights group had accused Israel of committing a “live-streamed genocide” by forcibly displacing Palestinians and creating a humanitarian disaster. Israel dismissed those claims, calling them false. The ongoing conflict has created a situation where families are struggling just to find food, water, and medical care.

Harsh Humanitarian Conditions in Gaza

The ongoing blockade and severe restrictions on supplies have left ordinary people in Gaza in a state of extreme vulnerability. Families face daily challenges to access necessities. Food, clean drinking water, and essential medicine are scarce, and the situation is expected to worsen as winter approaches.

Schools, hospitals, and other public services are under intense pressure. Many children are at risk of long-term health problems due to malnutrition. Families living in temporary displacement camps face harsh conditions, including overcrowding and a lack of proper shelter. The fear, trauma, and uncertainty are taking a toll on everyone in Gaza, particularly the youngest and most vulnerable.

Urgent Calls for International Intervention

The human rights organization has urged the international community to take immediate action to prevent further suffering. They call on Israel to allow adequate humanitarian aid, food, and medical supplies into Gaza. Without urgent intervention, thousands of children and families could face starvation and worsening health conditions.

The United Nations and other humanitarian organizations have echoed these concerns, warning that the crisis could spiral out of control if more assistance is not allowed into Gaza. Aid organizations are appealing for international support to help provide food, clean water, and medical care to those who are most in need.

The Reality of Daily Life in Gaza

For many people in Gaza, life has become a struggle for survival. Families must deal with constant shortages of food and water, lack of medical care, and the trauma of living in a war-torn area. Children are particularly vulnerable, with malnutrition affecting their growth and development. Pregnant women, elderly people, and sick individuals face extreme risk without access to proper food and healthcare.

Temporary displacement camps have become home for many families, but these camps are overcrowded and lack basic facilities. Hospitals are overwhelmed with patients, and medical staff are struggling to provide care with limited resources. Families are forced to rely on whatever small aid reaches them, often not enough to meet their basic needs.

Worsening Crisis as Winter Approaches

As winter draws near, conditions in Gaza could deteriorate even further. Cold weather increases the risk of illness, particularly for children and the elderly. Limited access to clean water and food makes it harder for people to survive harsh conditions. Health authorities warn that malnutrition could become even more severe, affecting thousands more people in the coming months.

Aid organizations continue to call for international attention and intervention. They stress that allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza is critical to preventing famine and saving lives. Without immediate action, families could face unimaginable suffering.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with ordinary people enduring extreme hunger, health risks, and constant fear. While Israel denies targeting civilians, the human rights organization’s report highlights the devastating effects of the conflict on Palestinians. Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and families living in temporary displacement camps are struggling to survive amid food shortages, lack of medical care, and ongoing violence.

The international community faces a growing challenge to prevent further humanitarian disasters. Aid and intervention are urgently needed to protect the lives of thousands of children and families in Gaza. Without immediate action, the crisis could worsen, leaving more people vulnerable to hunger, illness, and long-term suffering.
