Light Rail Transit services along Malaysia’s Ampang and Sri Petaling lines continued operating under a modified schedule on Friday as restoration work proceeded following a train derailment near Chan Sow Lin Station. Despite the disruption, stations remained open and train services continued with adjustments designed to minimize inconvenience for daily commuters.
A survey conducted at several stations along the affected route found that operations were running smoothly, with ticket counters functioning normally and station staff actively assisting passengers. Rapid Rail personnel were deployed across platforms to provide travel guidance and help commuters navigate temporary service changes.
At several stations, including Cheras, only one platform was used for trains travelling in both directions. Passengers heading toward Putra Heights and Sentul Timur were required to follow updated boarding instructions announced through station loudspeaker systems. The arrangement allowed train services to continue while repair teams worked on the damaged section of track.
Many commuters praised the assistance provided by railway staff during the disruption. Passengers reported that clear instructions and visible staff presence helped reduce confusion despite changes to regular boarding procedures. Most travelers were able to continue their journeys with only minor delays.
Some passengers, however, opted to seek alternative transportation after encountering route adjustments. Several commuters switched to e-hailing services after reaching connecting stations, citing convenience and concerns about additional travel time. Nevertheless, many acknowledged the efforts made by transit operators to maintain service continuity.
The disruption was triggered by a derailment involving an Ampang/Sri Petaling Line train near Chan Sow Lin Station on Thursday morning. Authorities later confirmed that the incident was caused by a fault in a track switching mechanism, which affected train movements and required immediate repair work.
Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that restoration efforts are progressing steadily and that the affected track is expected to be fully operational by next Wednesday at the latest. He assured passengers that all stations along the route would remain open throughout the repair period, with modified train schedules ensuring continued service while safety and infrastructure improvements are completed.
