Anutin Pushes Faster and Fair Justice

Anutin Pushes Faster and Fair Justice

Post by : Shakul

Anutin Charnvirakul reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to justice reform and the rule of law during a major national event held at the IMPACT FORUM building in Nonthaburi. Speaking under the theme “24 Years of Swift, Comprehensive, and Just Assistance to Innocent Victims,” the Prime Minister stressed that justice must be delivered quickly and fairly to maintain public trust and national stability.

During the ceremony, Anutin declared that “Justice delayed is justice denied,” emphasising that the government has a responsibility to protect innocent citizens and ensure fair legal treatment for all people. He explained that justice and the rule of law remain fundamental pillars of social harmony, democratic governance and long-term national development in Thailand.

The Prime Minister stated that the government places strong importance on protecting victims, suspects and defendants equally under the legal system. According to him, assistance and protection should be provided without discrimination regardless of nationality, social background or status. He added that foreigners living in Thailand are also entitled to fair treatment under universal human rights principles and human dignity standards.

Referring to his government’s policy statement presented to Parliament on April 9, 2026, Anutin said Thailand remains committed to strengthening legal equality and improving public access to justice. He noted that legal reforms are being accelerated to reduce unnecessary burdens on citizens while also improving the efficiency and transparency of government agencies through modern technology.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the suffering faced by innocent individuals who become involved in criminal investigations or legal disputes. He explained that wrongful accusations and legal delays can damage reputations, freedom, livelihoods and even lives. According to Anutin, the government must actively prevent situations where innocent people become scapegoats within the justice system.

Officials revealed that since the implementation of the Compensation for Victims and Reimbursement of Expenses for Defendants in Criminal Cases Act in 2001, Thailand has provided assistance to more than 145,000 innocent individuals. Authorities stated that over 8.1 billion baht has been distributed to support victims and defendants affected by legal cases. Since 2023, more than 1,000 foreign nationals have also received assistance amounting to over 47 million baht.

Anutin instructed all state agencies to follow three key principles in their work: speed, comprehensiveness and fairness. He stressed that victims should receive immediate support without unnecessary delays or complicated procedures. He also called on civil servants and provincial governors to work proactively in resolving legal issues and reducing suffering among affected citizens across the country.

The Prime Minister explained that improving the justice system is also important for Thailand’s international image and economic future. He said strong rule of law standards are closely examined by foreign investors and international organisations, especially as Thailand seeks membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. According to Anutin, transparent legal systems help strengthen confidence among businesses and the global community.

The event concluded with the Prime Minister symbolically turning a clock to noon to represent the goal of delivering fast and impartial justice. He also personally handed financial assistance to four victims under Thailand’s compensation programme for criminal case victims and defendants. Officials described the event as part of the government’s broader effort to modernise the justice system and ensure fair treatment for all people in Thailand.
