The Arab Parliament has issued a strong denunciation of the attack on the Qatari vessel Al Rekayyat, which occurred while navigating the Strait of Hormuz. This act has been labeled a grave breach of international law, jeopardizing maritime safety and global energy stability.
Their statement, released Tuesday, has underscored concerns regarding the ramifications of such acts on a critical shipping corridor in the world.
In an official remark, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, decried the Iranian actions that jeopardize both regional security and the safety of maritime operations within the Strait of Hormuz.
He emphasized the Strait’s significance for the global economy and demanded an immediate cessation of acts that compromise international waterways and maritime safety.
Al Yamahi reaffirmed the unwavering stance of the Arab Parliament against any attacks targeted at Arab nations or their assets. He emphasized that such actions are intolerable and threaten the ongoing efforts for peace in the region.
Furthermore, he called upon all parties to uphold the principles of good neighbourliness, adhering to international protocols to ensure free navigation and safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz and other strategic channels.
The Arab Parliament cautioned that ongoing violations could escalate tensions, adversely impacting both regional and global stability. They highlighted the necessity of protecting essential maritime routes to ensure the continuity of global energy security and unimpeded navigation.
This Parliament reiterated its calls for actions that foster stability, secure international shipping lanes, and prevent further escalation in the region.
