Argentinian President Javier Milei said that Argentina will move its embassy in Israel from near Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in 2026. He made this announcement during a visit to Israel, showing strong support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Milei told Israel’s parliament that Argentina stands with Israel during these difficult times. He said many countries are not supporting Israel and are being influenced by terrorists, making victims look like the bad guys.
Milei also asked for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, including four Argentinians taken during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
He criticized Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who was recently sent out of Israel after trying to break the naval blockade on Gaza. Thunberg has spoken out against Israel’s actions in Gaza. Milei said Thunberg was seeking attention and that real hostages are suffering in Gaza.
Israel is facing a lot of criticism from other countries because of the ongoing war in Gaza, where more than 55,000 Palestinians have died in over 20 months of fighting.
Most countries keep their embassies in Tel Aviv because the status of Jerusalem is a very sensitive issue. Israel considers all of Jerusalem its capital, but Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of their own future country.
