In a candid discussion on the ongoing issue of nepotism in Bollywood, actor Arshad Warsi expressed his views on his children’s desire to act. Despite their aspirations, he firmly believes in meritocracy over networking in the Hindi film industry.
Arshad, celebrated for his roles in classics like Munna Bhai MBBS, Jolly LLB, and Golmaal, elaborated on his children’s goals. “Both my son and daughter are interested in acting,” he stated. “My son is currently working with Siddharth Anand and has collaborated with Rajkumar Hirani. It’s a daunting task—success rates are incredibly low. Out of 150 crore people, only a select few find success as actors.”
When queried about leveraging his influence for their careers, Arshad declined. “Nobody can assist you in this industry; you must forge your own path,” he emphasized. “I can’t reach out to directors to secure opportunities for my kids. Why would they gamble on my son? Even suggesting a meeting would create expectations, which goes against my principles.”
He pointed out how competitive the industry is today compared to when he began. “It’s no longer controlled by a select few; the audience dictates everything. Even star kids must earn their place, as no one invests in someone who fails to deliver.”
His son Zeke, 21, is gaining experience as an assistant director under prominent industry figures, while his daughter Zoe, 18, balances her studies with an interest in acting. To foster independence, Arshad and his wife, former VJ and actress Maria Goretti, have shielded their children from excessive media scrutiny.
Arshad’s insights add depth to the ongoing nepotism dialogue in Bollywood, suggesting that connections are not the sole pathway to success.
The actor recently had a noteworthy role in Aryan Khan’s web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, where he portrayed a crime lord, earning accolades from both fans and critics. This year, he’s also set to appear in two significant projects—Jolly LLB 3 alongside Akshay Kumar and Bhagawat Chapter One: Raakshas.
Despite his illustrious career, Arshad emphasizes that dedication and authenticity remain paramount in the entertainment landscape. “Regardless of your background, this industry values those who connect with audiences,” he asserted. “True talent, honesty, and persistence are the connections that truly matter.”
