BCCI Seeks Mohsin Naqvi Impeachment After Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Row

BCCI Seeks Mohsin Naqvi Impeachment After Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Row

Post by : Rameen Ariff

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to remove Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi after the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy. The Asia Cup trophy was not given to the winning Indian cricket team after the final match. Instead, Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), kept the trophy and later handed it to the UAE cricket board. This unusual act has created strong anger within the BCCI and raised questions about professionalism in cricket administration.

The BCCI has accused Naqvi of violating protocols by refusing to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India, the rightful winners. His move has been described as a breach of responsibility, conflict of interest, and misconduct. Reports suggest that Naqvi even took the Asia Cup trophy and medals to his hotel room in Dubai, an act widely seen as disrespectful. His actions are also being linked to mixing politics with sport, which has damaged the reputation of both the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

In a recent ACC virtual meeting, BCCI officials Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar confronted Naqvi directly. They made it clear that the Asia Cup 2025 trophy belongs to the Indian cricket team, not to any official or board. The BCCI also demanded that Naqvi congratulate India’s unbeaten, Suryakumar Yadav-led team, but he chose not to do so. While the ACC has expressed regret over the incident, Naqvi has not issued a formal apology.

The BCCI has confirmed that the issue will be taken to the ICC meeting in November 2025, where it will demand action against Mohsin Naqvi. If the proposal is accepted, it could lead to his impeachment as the ACC Chief.
